Nurturing Pathways® is a research based creative movement program for the first three years of life that engages the whole body and brain for optimal development. Through developmentally appropriate creative dance experiences the first three years of life are advanced emotionally, physically and cognitively.

Nurturing Pathways® was developed and founded in 2001 by Christine Roberts who has combined her experience as a professional modern dancer and teacher of all ages for the past 25 years, with the life changing vaccine injury her son Samuel experienced. Samuel's theraputic journey has led Christine to two core beliefs that drive the Nurturing Pathways® Program. 1) The first three years of a child's life affect the outcome of the rest of one's life. 2) Movement is a catalyst for organizing early cognitive, emotional and physical development. Christine has introduced Nurturing Pathways® to Pigeon Hearts in Tokyo, Japan; Sydney, Australia; Montana; Idaho; Hawaii; New Jersey; Kentucky and throughout the state of Washington conducting workshops and trainings.

Nurturing Pathways® stimulates and organizes the sensorimotor systems, which are undergoing critical and prime periods of development from birth to three. The program focuses on patterns of movement, rhyming exercises, sensory play, and dancing to music to enhance development during the first three years.

The program is used in dance studios, community centers, health clubs, urban play spaces, daycares, early intervention and parent education programs.

The outcome: children who are securely attached to their primary caregiver and express delight as they develop their cognitive and physical skills.

Christine holds a BFA in Dance from Connecticut College. She danced professionally for 6 years with modern dance companies in Connecticut, Michigan and Seattle. For 25 years Christine has taught creative and modern dance to all ages. She has taught creative dance in private studio settings, school settings and a variety of co-ops. Christine operates her own Nurturing Pathways studio at the Phinney Neighborhood Center in Seattle, WA; and the North Kirkland Community Center in Kirkland, WA. She is an accomplished teacher with a wide range of skills for a variety of ages. Christine is a member of Zero to Three, the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association, the Association for Childhood Education International, Body Mind Centering Association, the National Dance Education Organization and National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Christine is grateful for the inspiring teachers and artists who have contributed to the Nurturing Pathways® Program. For her son Sam, who inspired the conception of Nurturing Pathways®. His special needs and on-going journey deepens her understanding of our delicate nervous system and its need for enrichment. For Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen whose lifetime of watching children move has forever changed the way I look at the developmental patterns. For Bill Evans who has integrated the patterns into his dance technique. For Anne Green Gilbert, an inspiring mentor and her BrainDance. For Bette Lamont, who helped Sam and nurtured Christine's enthusiasm for the developmental patterns. For Rosemary White, and her passion for sensory integration and play. For Eric Jensen who helped me apply neuroscience to development and teaching. For Eric Chappelle, Kerri Lynn Nichols, New England Dancing Masters and Marian Rose who provide beautiful music for Nurturing Pathways®. For two very talented artists, Bev Sparks and Leif Chappelle who brought Nurturing Pathways® to life with her photos and his web design.

Thank you!
